Sophomore Ja-Courtney Alexander won her second Track Athlete of the Week this season
NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference released their Track and Field Male and Female Athletes of the week on Tuesday afternoon, and for the third time this a Troy University student-athlete was recognized for their efforts in competition.
For the second time this season, sophomore Ja-Courtney Alexander has been rewarded for her efforts on the track by being named the Female Track Athlete of the Week; voted on by a panel of the league's head coaches.
Alexander won the 400-meters at the Coach O Invitational and also tied the best performance of the season with a time of 54.76 seconds. She finished nearly one second ahead of her closest competitor of the race. The performance was just 0.13 seconds short of a track record. She also finished sixth in the 200-meters, but the fourth-best collegiate athlete, as she crossed the line in a time of 24.08 seconds. The time is just 0.05 seconds short of the best time of the season recorded by Alexander.
To finish the day, Alexander ran a leg of the 4x400-meter relay in which the Trojans finished fourth with a time of 3:51.66, the best time of the year for the Trojans by nearly two seconds.
The Trojans return to action this weekend as they take part in a dual meet with the University of South Alabama and Birmingham-Southern College in Mobile.
