NSCAA Names Scholar All-South Region Team

TROY, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) – The NSCAA announced their Scholar All-South Region team late last week, and the Troy University soccer program is well-represented with seven different players named to the team.

Senior Jill Pinder earned the highest honor for the Trojans as she was named to the First Team All-South Region. The senior not only performed on the field by breaking numerous records at the university, but she also shined in the classroom. She finished her playing career with a 3.42 grade point average in Biology, and was one of 20 student-athletes named to the first team. She was one of just two Sun Belt Conference players to earn the honor, with Vanessa Mueggler of Middle Tennessee being the other.

Six other Trojans were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-South Region for their performance in the classroom as well.

Goalkeeper Ashley Branham was one of just eight goalkeepers named on the list, which included 80 players. Branham earned the honor with a 3.38 grade point average in Physical Education. She was joined on the honorable mention list by senior Ceil Martinec (3.44 in Marine Biology), senior Carley Zurfluh (3.58 in Biology), senior Laura Hopson (3.36 in Cell and Molecular Biology), senior April Madden (3.86 in Business Administration) and junior Mary Morris (3.46 in Biomedical Sciences).

The group is the largest ever recognized from TROY by the NSCAA.

“We are so proud of these girls for doing what they need to do on and off the field,” TROY head soccer coach Chris Bentley said. “To have such a strong showing is incredible, and this recognition is so well-deserved."
