TROY, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) - The Troy University soccer team hosted another successful event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Alabama on April 16.
"We really appreciated the soccer team for doing this for the 4th annual event," BB/BS Activities Coordinator Melinda Conner said. "This year we had even more children attend, which I was glad to see, and we were very thankful for a pretty day where we can all get out here and play."
Little brothers and sisters (ages 6-16) were able to participate in a variety of games such as kickball, capture the soccer ball, soccer and others
“We are very proud of the way the event was run this year," TROY head coach Chris Bentley said. "The girls did an outstanding job. A big thanks should go out to Mrs. Brenda Campbell's spring sociology class for helping with the food as well."
The Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth. National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives.
By participating in our youth mentoring programs, little brothers and sisters are: more confident in their schoolwork performance; able to get along better with their families; 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs; 27% less likely to begin using alcohol; and 52% less likely to skip school.
"Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for new volunteers," Conner stated.
