TROY falls to Middle Tennessee

Sun Belt Shootout concludes on Sunday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University men's tennis team dropped their second match of the Sun Belt Shootout late Saturday afternoon, falling to the host Middle Tennessee 4-2.
The Trojans and Middle Tennessee played just six matches in singles play to decide the outcome, with TROY winning at the top and bottom of the lineup to record their points in the match.
Elliot Barnwell gave Middle Tennessee the early 1-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over TROY senior Mario Rolemberg, before the Trojans were able to tie the match up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory by Niklas Jonsson over Kyle Wishing at number six.
Middle Tennessee pushed the lead to 2-1 overall as Ben Davis claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jamie Eccleton; while the lead was pushed to 3-1 when Dimitri Pippos defeated TROY's Sami Ghorbel 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 at number four.
The Trojans were able to climb back into the match as Anas Rouchdi claimed a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Shaun Waters at number one; putting the match in the hands of the players at number three singles. The match at number three between TROY's Branko Weber and Middle Tennessee's Matthew Langley went down to the wire as they final two sets were decided in a tiebreak. After dropping the first set, Langley was able to come back and claim the victory 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 for the overall Blue Raiders' victory.
The Sun Belt Shootout concludes tomorrow in Murfreesboro.
