TROY Hosts UAB in Strikeout Cancer Game

TROY, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University softball team plays its final home for the next two weeks as they host in-state rival UAB at the Troy Softball Complex. The game is part of the NFCA Strikeout Cancer, in which donations will be accepted to help fund research to find a cure.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm at the Troy Softball Complex, and admission is free.
The Trojans will be celebrating NFCA Strikeout Cancer Day against UAB in today's game. The Trojans will be wearing pink warm-up shirts, along with pink hair bands and bracelets. The Troy University Promotions Department will be throwing out pink bracelets throughout the contest, and will be asking for donations which will go to help fund cancer research. The Trojans will also be honoring Pam Nix, a cancer survivor, as she throws out the ceremonial first pitch for the game.
This will be the second meeting of the year between TROY and UAB, with the Trojans winning the first meeting 2-0 at the All-Alabama Classic in Vestavia Hills. In that contest, Ashlyn Williams picked up the complete game victory allowing just four hits and striking out 13. In that contest, Hayden Gann picked up a pair of hits, while Sarah Shields drove in both TROY runs.
The Trojans and UAB have met 19 times in school history, with the Trojans holding a 12-7 advantage in the series. The Trojans are 6-2 all-time against UAB at the Troy Softball Complex, while they are 5-4 in Birmingham and 1-1 on a neutral field.
TROY head coach Melanie Davis, who picked up win 700 against Florida Atlantic this weekend, will be going for win number 800 overall against the Blazers on Tuesday afternoon.
