Head coach Eric Hayes announced the signing on Tuesday morning
TROY, Ala. – The Troy University men's tennis team announced an addition to their squad for the upcoming 2011-12 season on Tuesday morning.
Head coach Eric Hayes announced that Andre Stabile (Sao Paulo, Brazil) will join the Trojans next season. Stabile is a transfer from Texas Tech University, playing one season in 2009-10, leaving him three years of eligibility remaining at TROY.
“Signing Andre will solidify next year's team,” Hayes said. “With the youth on this year's team, he can really help us out at the top of our lineup.”
Stabile was ranked as the top player in Brazil and in South America in 14 and under, then was ranked second in Brazil and fifth in South America at 16 and under. He played on Brazil's Junior World Cup team during 16 and under, a team that finished third in the world.
Ranked 141st in the ITF junior world rankings and 941st in the ATP world rankings, Stabile defeated Thiago Alves when he was ranked 114th in the ATP rankings.
At Texas Tech, Stabile finished the year with a record of 10-16 in singles and 21-10 in doubles (fall and spring combined). He had an 8-13 record in singles, 8-12 at No. 4 and 0-1 at No. 3, and 17-8 in doubles, 14-8 at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 1, with Gonzalo Escobar in the spring.
In the fall, Stabile competed in two tournaments, the Baylor Intercollegiate, where he advanced to the doubles final with teammate Gonzalo Escobar, and ITA Regionals. He finished the fall with a 2-3 singles record and is 4-2 in doubles with Escobar.
