Hill in First Place After Opening Day

ATLANTA – After four events of the heptathlon on the opening day of the Morehouse College Relays, the Troy University track and field team has a leader.

Freshman Adria Hill, a native of Scottsboro, leads the heptathlon with a total of 2,602 points – all ready beating her previous personal best from high school which stood at 2,599 points.

“I am proud of the way that Adria competed today,” assistant coach Anthony Bertoli said. “She produced quality marks across the board in her first competition. Anyone watching today wouldn't have known that she has battled injury throughout the indoor season, and because of that hasn't had the level of work we would like in some event areas.”

Although she missed time while battling with the injury, Hill still was able to perform at a high level on Thursday morning. The freshman finished with 797 points in the hurdles, crossing the line in a time of 15.34 seconds, following that up with a jump of 4-8.25 in the high jump for a point total of 544.

Hill finished the day with 436 points in the shot put, hitting a mark of 8.57 meters; while finishing the day with 825 points in the 200 meters as she cross the line in a time of 25.68 seconds.

“Adria had collegiate personal bests in all of her events on the first day,” Bertoli said. “If she can bring the same intensity and competitive drive tomorrow, she will have no problem setting a new personal best in the heptathlon.”

The heptathlon continues on Friday beginning at 9 am (EST), while the remainder of the Morehouse College Relays will be contested on Saturday beginning at 9 am (EST).
