Following tonight's home game against Florida A&M, things will get serious for the Troy baseball team.
But, before focusing on the start of Sun Belt Conference play, the Trojans will have a final non-conference tuneup against the Rattlers. Game time is set for 6 p..m. at Riddle-Pace Field.
Fans can listed to the game over the Troy Sports Network with Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller on the call. The game can be heard locally on WTBF-FM 94.7 and over the internet at TroyTrojans.com. Web stream video from the game will also be available through Trojans All-Access.
Troy comes into the game with a 13-3 record on the season and fresh off a four-game sweep of New Orleans this past weekend. One thing the Trojans don't have yet this season is a mid-week win, losing both previous efforts on the road.
The Rattlers come into the game with a 7-12 record on the year and most recently lost two of three games at home to Savannah State.
Troy will send sophomore William Teal, a local product of Charles Henderson High School, to the mound against FAMU for his first start. Teal spent his first two collegiate seasons at Northwest Shoals Community College where he had a solid freshman season but was injured early last year and had to have surgery.
Teal made his first appearance with an inning of relief against UNO over the weekend and will be on a strict pitch count in the game tonight.
Offensively, the Trojans started to find their power stroke during the series with the Privateers, hitting five homers over the weekend, but the home runs came from unlikely sources. Besides senior Adam Bryant, who hit his first of the year, the power came from Todd McRae, Ali Knowles and Daniel Peterson, who hit the first two homers of his collegiate career.
Troy enters the game tonight with a commanding 25-4 all-time series lead against Florida A&M. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2002 season and is the first of two games this year. The Trojans will travel to Tallahassee on May 10 for a second game with the Rattlers.
Following tonight's game, the Trojans' next six games will all be in Sun Belt Conference play. Troy will host South Alabama this weekend for three games and will then host UALR next week for a three-game series.
