The Troy University women's golf team will make its spring debut on Monday in the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile.
The Tournament is being played at the Azalea City Golf Club and will open with 36-holes of play on the par-72 course which will play at just more than 6,000 yards.
“It is a golf course our girls really like,” Troy coach Matt Terry said. “You have to be accurate off the tee and careful around the greens. If we play like we are capable, then we should be in the running on Tuesday.”
The Trojans will carry all six team members to the tournament, with sophomore Sara Fennvik playing in the event as an individual.
Terry said he expects junior Haley Lawrence to build on a strong showing in the fall.
“Haley has been playing really well, even with all of the distractions of her athletic training major program,” Terry said. “She is a very focused player and a very determined individual.”
Lawrence will be joined by sophomore Sofia Bjorkman, freshman Signy Arnorsdottir and seniors Liz Balkcom and Annelies Anderson.
“We still have some polishing to do as a team, but we are looking forward to playing in this tournament,” Terry said.
The Trojans will be joined in the event by teams from UAB, Jackson State, ULM, Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Alabama State, Centenary, Samford, Winthrop and Southern Miss as well as the host team from South Alabama.
Assuming both rounds are played to completion on Monday, a final 18-hole round will be layed on Tuesday to complete the tournament.
