Game Notes | Live Stats
Troy, Ala. – The Troy (0-2, 0-0) women's basketball team will be back in front of their own fans Tuesday night when they host the Belhaven Blazers (7-0, 0-0).
The Trojans enter the contest off of a two game losing streak to start their season including a 75-57 loss on the road to Furman last Thursday.
Despite their record, the Trojans have had success against the Blazers in the past winning the past four straight contests all in the confines of Sartain Hall. The overall series record currently sits at 4-1 with all four wins coming under the leadership of head coach Michael Murphy. Belhaven has not defeated the Trojans since the 1978-79 season.
However, the Trojans work will be cut out for them this season against Belhaven as the Blazers enter the contest off of a seven game winning streak. Belhaven is currently ranked 25th in the preseason NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. They are also currently 6th in the NAIA in 3 point field goal percentage at 40% and are seventh in the country in steals with 94.
The Trojans bring with them impressive individual success. Already this season the Trojans have had three players hit double digits in each game. One player in particular, Sarah McAppion who leads the Trojans in scoring with 31 total points and averaging 15.5 points a game, will be looking to lead her team to success on Tuesday night.
Tenia Manuel has also been impressive on the defensive side of the ball as well as averaging 10 points a game for the Trojans. Last week against the Paladins Manuel stepped up for the injured Kourtney Coleman, who led the team with 12 rebounds in their first game, to lead the Trojans in rebounding as she now averages 8.5 rebounds a game.
The Trojans will be putting their efforts together to claim their first victory of the season against Belhaven Tuesday night in Sartain Hall. Tipoff is set for 7pm.
