Box Score
Greenville, S.C. – The Trojan (0-2) women's basketball team fell to the Furman Paladins (2-1) 75-57 in their first road contest on Thursday.
The Trojans put up similar numbers to the Paladins in shooting. Troy shot 24-69 in the contest while Furman shot 28-70. However, the difference maker came from behind the ark as Furman went 6-17 and Troy struggled at 0-5.
Sarah McAppion, who had success in game one continued her scoring streak into game two shooting 4-8 from the field and 4-4 at the free throw line totaling 12 points. That marks two consecutive contests where McAppion has put up double digit points.
DeAngela Sword also built on her game one success Thursday night at Furman. Sword also recorded her second straight double digit scoring game as she put up 17 total points, shooting 8-17 from the field.
Tenia Manuel took the roll of the injured Kourtney Coleman , who led in rebounds in the season opener, recording eight total rebounds and even putting up 10 points for the Trojans.
“I thought we fought hard the whole game,” said head coach Michael Murphy. “However, we struggled at times to sustain our runs. Not having players like Kourtney Coleman due to injury, made a huge difference. We struggled with fatigue, but overall the kids played hard and gave it their best shot. Now we're just going to continue to improve and get better.”
The Trojans will get a chance to rebound from their two game losing streak when they host Belhaven on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 7 pm and can be seen on TroyTrojans.com All-Access. Follow TroyTrojans.com for all the latest women's basketball updates or on Twitter (@TroyAthletics).
