Trojans Host Alumni Game during Alumni Weekend at Riddle-Pace Field

Troy Baseball kicked off their 2011 Alumni Weekend on Friday night, November 11, with an Alumni Game at Riddle Pace Field.
66 former players from eight different states and five different decades played in the seven-inning game and enjoyed dinner on the deck above the home dugout.
The evening began with the ceremonial first pitch thrown out by three distinguished guests. Peyton Langford
represented the Miracle League of Troy. Peyton is the daughter of Chris Langford, a pitcher at Troy
during the 1993-97 seasons, and Paige Langford.
Former players Buck Watford and Chris Amosrepresented the military in recognition of Veteran's Day. Watford played at Troy in 1984 & 1985 and was inducted into the Troy University Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Amos played at Troy from 1989-91.
The home team, “Troy,” managed by Ed Black, a member of the 1986 & 1987 National Championship teams, won 7-1 over the “Trojans,” managed by Watford. In the third inning, Troy erupted for six runs en route to the victory.
Following the game, Head Coach Bobby Pierce presented awards to six playersfor their accomplishments during the game.
Brock Kelley, a 2008 player from Opp, was the game's Most Valuable Player. The Play of the Day was made by second baseman Chip Hummel, an Orlando, Floridanative, when he dove for a ground ball and then threw to first to record an out. Hummel was a third teamAll-American while at Troy in 1992-93.
The Best Hit came from J.R. Myers from Prattville. Myers, a 2009-10 player, circled the bases on an “in the park” home run to claim the award. Josh Storm from Cottondale, Fla. received the award for Best Fastball after throwing a 91 mph fastball in his inningof work on the mound. Storm played for the Trojans in 2008-09 and holds the Troy Baseball record for career saves and single season saves.
Receiving the award for traveling the farthest was Joe Hallahanfrom Wildwood, Missouri. Hallahan was the number two starter on the mound for the Trojans during the 2006 & 2007 seasons. During those two seasons, Troy won conference championships and appearedin NCAA Regional Tournaments.
The oldest player, and starting pitcher for the home team, was Rick Harrison from Lakeland, Florida. Harrison played in 1978-79 and was an All-Conference selection in 1978.
“Troy Baseball means so much to so many people and this is a great opportunity for former players to come back and spend time with one another,” said Coach Pierce. “We could not do this event without all of our many volunteers and sponsors that worked hard for many weeks. Paige Langford was instrumental in coordinating the event and I certainly appreciate the work that she did to make this happen.”
The Alumni Game is held every two years in conjunction with the Baseball Hall of Fame Induction and the Football Homecoming Game.
