Troy women's basketball will travel to Furman University to take on the Paladins in their first road contest of 2011-12.
Troy, Ala. – Troy's women's basketball is preparing to travel to Greenville, South Carolina to take on the Furman Paladins in their first road test of the 2011-12 season.
The Trojans (0-1, 0-0) will look to rebound from an 80-66 loss to the Winthrop Eagles in their home opening contest. Despite losing, Troy did secure a strong foundation in which to build off going into the season.
“We have a lot to work with; we have a lot to work on, but I'm happy with our effort,” said head coach Michael Murphy following the contest against Winthrop.
The Trojans, going into their second game of the season, have already seen strong individual efforts in which they will hope to build on.
Junior Sarah McAppion, in her first season since coming back from injury, has come into this season on fire. She lead the Trojan squad in total points against the Eagles as she netted 19.
Returning sophomore Ieva Nagy has also stepped up early this season, shooting 3-7 from behind the ark and totaling 14 points in the season opener.
Freshman Kourtney Coleman, in her collegiate debut, led her team with 12 total rebounds and putting up six total points.
“We're going to continue to do what we do which is getting better every day by keeping things simple and focusing on our work ethic: playing with purpose and playing with passion,” said Murphy. “If we do that then we will have a lot of success.”
The Trojans tip off against the Paladins on Thursday at 4 pm in Greenville, South Carolina. Follow TroyTrojans.com for all the latest Troy women's basketball updates. Also follow TroyTrojans.com on twitter: @TroyAthletics for updates during the game.
