Troy Moves On to Post Season

The Trojan soccer team prepares to take on conference champions in first round of the post season tournament.
Troy, Ala. – After wrapping up their regular season at home last Friday against South Alabama, the Troy (9-10-1, 4-7) soccer team now turns their attention to the post season. With a 4-7 finish in their conference record, the Trojans secured the final seat in the Sun Belt tournament.
However, the Trojans will have their work cut out for them in the post season as they are set to take on the conference champions North Texas (13-4-2, 8-1-1) in the first round. Troy fell to North Texas earlier this season 1-4 in Denton, Texas.
“To win the regular season championship, you need to be consistent in your style of play and mindset,” said head coach Chris Bentley.
“UNT are certainly no exception to that, they are tough, hardnosed, and work hard for everything. They are committed to their style of play and are very effective as proven in their results. Having the chance to play UNT again is just a part of making the post-season.
They will have had an opportunity to break us down and so have we. Now it just comes down to how the players respond.”
This is the third straight season the Trojans have qualified for the post season tournament, although they are still seeking their first post season victory. Last season the Trojans fell to Florida International in the first round 1-2, but were still able to finish the season in fifth place in the conference standings.
We are very proud of the growth of the program,” Bentley said. “Being a tournament team is no longer a goal, it's an expectation. We have had a great couple days of training and the team is very excited about post-season play.”
Troy will take on North Texas in match four of the tournament at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Follow TroyTrojans.com for updates on the tournament.
