In only her second year as a Trojan, Tieken shows promise of team leadership.
Sophomore, Maddie Tieken hales from Fort Worth, Texas. Tieken came to Troy as freshman and has made a name for herself on the soccer field.
Tieken was first introduced to soccer to at the age of four. Growing up she participated in numerous other sports such as, softball, horseback riding, basketball, and even ballet. Soccer was the sport that offered Tieken more.
“I just fell in love with soccer,” Tieken admits with enthusiasm.
Tieken knew that she wanted to play soccer all the time, but she needed the support from those closest to her. Her family supported her 100 percent.
“Soccer became a family thing for our family,” said Tieken. “I would not be where I am today without the help of my parents.”
All of Maddie's efforts paid off when she landed a scholarship at Troy University to play a game she loved so much.
The first home game Tieken played in her freshman year, she showed just how much she had to offer the team, the coaches, and the fans. Tieken acquired a three goal 'hat trick' in her collegiate debut.
When asked about her first performance Tieken said, “As a forward it's my job, to get the ball in the net.”
Since her freshman year Tieken has taken on the role as the team “spunk.” Tieken makes sure that teams moral is up and stays energetic.
“I just like going out there and getting everyone fired up,” said Tieken.
Tieken is thrilled about the team's talent for this year. She knows that the team has the ability to go as far as they dream.
“We have had some sloppy performances, but we have managed to get the wins,” Tieken said. “That shows me that we have a winning team even when we are not playing our best. We just have to get focused and then we will be unstoppable.”
As the team is nearing the center of their conference schedule, Tieken knows that she has two responsibilities: first, to get and keep the team's sprit up and second, Tieken knows her job on the field is to get the ball in the net.
“Soccer is not just a job, its more than that,” Tieken shares. “Soccer is my life and I am grateful for my talents and this team.”
