NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Sun Belt Conference held their annual Basketball Media Days on Tuesday and Wednesday, with all 24 of the league's head coaches participating in conference calls with media members from around the Sun Belt.
Along with media days came the announcement of the 2011-12 Sun Belt Network television schedule. The Troy men's and women's teams each will be featured on the network one time this upcoming season.
The Trojans' home men's game against South Alabama on Saturday, January 14 has been picked up by the network and will now tip-off at 8:00 p.m. That contest will feature All-Sun Belt guard Will Weathers of Troy and the Sun Belt's Preseason Player of the Year, Austine Rubit of South Alabama. The two will square off at Sartain Hall in Troy in what will be the facilities final year housing the Troy basketball programs.
The Trojans' women's team will also be featured on the Sun Belt Network as their Saturday, January 29, contest at South Alabama will air at 3:00 p.m. That game will feature two more All-Sun Belt selections as DeAngela Sword and Trojans travel south to take on Sarda Peterson and the Jags at the Mitchell Center.
For the 2011-12 season, the Sun Belt Network will have a record 28 basketball contests with men's and women's hoops both airing 14 games for the upcoming season. This includes, for the first time ever, a select number of men's and women's quarterfinal games from Hot Springs, Ark. during the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships. Additionally, all semifinal contests will be aired by the Sun Belt Network.
The Sun Belt Conference teamed up with regional sport network partners Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) and Cox Sports Television (CST) in the summer of 2009 to form the Sun Belt Network for regional conference television broadcasts.
Compared to the previous regional television deals, the Sun Belt Network saw a 37% increase in men's basketball broadcasts and a 40% increase in women's basketball broadcasts in just the first year.
In addition to the 28 games being broadcast by the Sun Belt Network, the ESPN Family of Networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPN3.com) will air five SBC games this season.
