SKILLMAN, N.J. – Less than a year ago, the Troy University men's tennis team was celebrating their first Sun Belt Conference championship in school history. This week, the Trojans earned their first preseason ranking in school history as they enter the initial rankings of the 2011 season at 62.
Troy (20-5) is one of just two teams from the Sun Belt Conference ranked in the initial rankings, joining last year's conference runner-up Denver. The Pioneers are the highest ranked team from the conference at 40 this season.
The Trojans will face multiple teams from the rankings this season; including opening the season with Florida State University, in the rankings at 27, on the road. They will also face ninth-ranked Florida in the ITA Kick-Off Classic at the end of January; a tournament in which only the top ranked teams in the country at the end of the 2010 season are invited.
Also on the 2011 schedule for the Trojans are Auburn (31), Alabama (34), Miami (44), North Carolina State (57) and Central Florida (74). All of the matches against ranked teams take place on the road, with the match against North Carolina State being part of the Kick-Off Classic in Gainesville.
The Trojans open the season January 18 against Florida State, and play their first home match February 23 against the University of South Alabama.
