Road Woes Continue for Trojans

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Troy failed to pick up a win on the road once again this season as it fell 77-58 on Saturday night in Sun Belt action in Diddle Arena.

The loss dropped the Trojans to 0-11 on the road this season in true road contests.

Western Kentucky's inside play proved to be too much for the Trojans as the Toppers out-scored Troy 44-20 in the paint.

An 11-4 run by the Toppers was capped by Juan Pattillo dunk. The senior scored six points during the WKU spurt. Troy answered with back-to-back baskets, but trailed 24-18 with 9:01 left.

Will Weathers scored a run-out lay-up, then knocked down a quick 3-pointer to close the Trojans (4-15, 2-5) to within three, 26-23, with 7:26 before the intermission.

WKU (8-11, 3-3) pushed its lead out to 11, its largest of the night, with a triple by Kahlil McDonald with 40 seconds left. Troy missed a chance to cut it down on an errant 3-pointer by Steve Cunningham at the first half horn.

The Toppers stretched their lead with another big run to start the second half, this time a 14-6 push, and the Trojans would never recover. The burst was capped by a big dunk from Pattillo with just south of 15 minutes left in the contest.

Troy was unable to get the deficit back under 20 points until a 3-pointer by Taylor with 15 seconds left. He led the Trojans with 20 points on the night - his seventh game of 20 or more this season.

Weathers was the other Trojan in double-figures with 12 points. He also totaled five assists. Bernard Toombs had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Trojans shot just 25.7 percent from the field in the second half, including just 19 percent from outside.

Sergio Kerusch led WKU with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Pattillo added 12.

Troy's next action comes on Thursday when they face South Alabama in Sartain Hall.
