Trojans run for second consecutive week
TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojans cross country teams will be competing, for the second week in a row, at the Georgia State Invitational in Hampton, Georgia. The race will actually begin on Friday instead of the normal Saturday cross country schedule.
The season started out with a bang for the Trojans after winning the Troy Invitational on the women's side and taking second on the men's side.
“Coming off our positive performance at the Troy Invitational, I am anxious to test the team at a longer distance,” coach Stephane Hetherington said. “This weekend will be our first full distance races of the season and the first full distance ever for a few of our new comers. I am looking to our more experienced runners to take charge and lead by example.”
The Trojans were led by returning runners Enock Kirui and Sylvia Chirchir in the opening race, and many other returners such as Adam Vise, Alec Hamm, Morgan Paulson and Allison Paulson also finished well.
The race this weekend is going to be a good indication of what to expect from the rest of the season and a good test before going into the Crimson Classic the next.
“We are excited about our opening performances for both teams,” Director of Track and Field, Jill Lancaster, said. “However, we feel they are capable of much more and look forward to seeing the progression this weekend.”
The women will be running at 3:00 in a 5K and the men will be running at 3:40 in an 8K.
