DES MOINES - A pair of Troy University outgoing seniors ended their careers with performances at the 2010 US Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.
Leander McKenzie finished as the fourth-best collegiate athlete in the 110-meter hurdles, an event in which he earned All-America status this past season. McKenzie finished 22nd overall with a time of 14.05 seconds; finishing behind Barrett Nugent of LSU, Jeffrey Julmis of Kansas State and Tyrell Ross of Nebraska. He missed the semifinals by just 0.22 seconds overall.
Meanwhile, senior Tiphanie Baker concluded her career in the discus at the meet. Although she was unable to hit a measureable distance, the senior still finished as one of the most decorated throwers in the school's history. She won both indoor and outdoor conference championships in both the hammer and discus, earning outdoor conference championships in back-to-back seasons.
"I am proud of these two student-athletes and how they have represented the univeristy thoughout their careers," Troy University Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jill Lancaster said. "They are great role models, and have both left their marks in the record books of the school and the conference."
