Juniors Wrap Up Meet

DES MOINES, Iowa - A quartet of upcoming-sophomores competed for Troy University at the USA Junior National Track and Field Championships this past week, hosted by Drake University.
Matt Braswell fared the best of all of the participants for the Trojans, finishing eighth overall at the meet. He finished with a throw of 59.35 meters (194-09.00) in the event, and was the top collegiate athlete to finish the event. Braswell finished two spots ahead of Coastal Carolina's Christopher Tillotson, throwing almost 13 feet further in the finals.

Meanwhile, Ja-Courteny Alexander missed making the semifinals in the 200-meters by 0.59 seconds, as she finished 22nd overall with a time of 25.05 seconds. Veronica Bryant also competed on Friday, finished 14th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 11.06 meters (36-03.50).
Upcoming sophomore Brynn Forsythe started the competition off for the Trojans on Thursday, as she competed in the junior hammer throw. She finished 22nd overall with a throw of 41.80 meters (137-02.00).
"We know they competed hard and put a close to long season," Troy University Director of Track and Field/Cross CountryJill Lancaster said. "This meet gave the group valuable experience and motivator for the great future that lies ahead. Our goal for these young kids is to see them back here at Drake - host of the 2011 NCAA Championships."
Although the junior meet is over for the Trojans, a pair of outgoing Trojans will compete in the USA Track and Field Championships starting tomorrow on the same surface as Leander McKenzie and Tiphanie Baker will test themselves among the nation's best.
