Trojans Win First Three Matches

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Troy University men's tennis team started the ITA Southern Regional off by winning three of their first four first round matches on Thursday morning in the Crescent City.
Mario Rolemberg started the action off for the Trojans with a hard-fought victory, at the Tulane University site, over David Roberts of LSU, fighting back to win in three sets after dropping the opening set. Rolemberg fell in the opening set 6-3, before storming back to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-2 and move into the Round of 64.
At the University of New Orleans site, Branko Weber was the lone Trojan to drop a first round matchup as he fell to Alex Jorne of Auburn 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Xavier Masson picked up a straight-set victory over Evan Magill of Centenary 6-1, 6-2; while Guilherme Sahadi found himself fighting to win a three-set match against Davis Taylor of Auburn. Sahadi won the match in three sets, after dropping the first, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
In the Round of 64, Bastian Maucher and Aurelien Tave both lost their matches after opening the tournament with a bye. Maucher fell to Neal Skupski of LSU after falling behind in the first set, 3-1, and being forced to retire. Meanwhile, Tave fell to Julien Gauthier of LSU in a hard-fought three-set match; 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5).
Masson and Sahadi returned to the courts at the University of New Orleans for the Round of 64 action later on Thursday. Masson fell to Mark Bowtell of LSU in another three-set match. Masson won the first set and forced a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Meanwhile, Sahadi dropped a hard-fought straight set match to James Tuvervill of LSU 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Back on the Tulane University campus, the lone remaining singles player - Rolemberg - returned to the courts but fell to Carlin Murray of Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1, 6-4; ending the singles tournament for the Trojans.
In doubles action on Thursday, the team of Masson and Weber fell in their Round of 32 match to Alabama's Saketh Myneni and Michael Davis, 8-1, on the University of New Orleans campus.
All other doubles matches were rescheduled for later on Friday due to weather-related issues in the Louisiana-area.
