TROY, Ala. - The Troy University men's tennis team will conclude their fall season this weekend at the Auburn Fall Classic. The Trojans will face stiff competition in two of the SEC's best in Auburn and South Carolina, as well as one the best in the NAIA in Embry-Riddle.
"It is a very strong field," Troy coach Eric Hayes said. "The tournament features two of the top Division I teams in the country in Auburn and South Carolina. It will also be tough because Embry-Riddle challenges for the national championship on the NAIA level each year."
Unlike many tournaments the Trojans have played this fall, in which they competed as individuals, this weekend's tournament is a team event. The Trojans will open with South Carolina at 2 pm on Friday, followed by matches against Embry-Riddle (Saturday at 9 am) and Auburn (Sunday at 1 pm).
"This is a good way to end our fall season," Hayes said. "It is good to end it against this type of competition before the spring season starts in January against Tulane."
Hayes believes this is the opportunity for his players to work their way around in the lineup, and after playing three tough teams he believes the Trojans will be ready in January.
"It is an opportunity for our players for move up or down in the lineup depending on their results this weekend," he said. "With the addition of some new players in January, we will have strong depth."
The Trojans will finish off their fall season on Sunday and not return to the courts again until January.
