TROY, Ala. - The Troy University men's tennis team will be looking to build off their season-opening victory over the weekend, as they head to New Orleans on Saturday to face Tulane University.
The match between Troy (1-0) and Tulane (1-0) will be just the second at the Goldring Tennis Center since Hurricane Katrina, and both teams will come in on a roll as they swept their opening opponents. Troy swept Alabama State 7-0, while Tulane swept Centenary 7-0 to set up the Saturday battle.
"The match against Tulane is going to be very exciting because this is only their second match since Hurricane Katrina," Troy assistant tennis coach Tyler Faulkner said. "I know they will be fired up to play. It's important that we come out and match their intensity, or else we could be in for a long day. We've had some great practices leading up to this match and I expect our guys to be ready."
Tulane had not played a home dual match since April 10, 2005 before their match over the weekend against Centenary. The men's tennis program, along with seven other Tulane athletic teams, suspended operations in the fall of 2005 following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Meanwhile, the Trojans come in on a roll as they dropped just nine total games in singles play over the weekend against Alabama State. A trio of Trojans - Branko Weber (number two), Mario Rolemberg (five) and Guilherme Sahadi (number six) all won their matches 6-0, 6-0 against Alabama State. The Trojans also only lost six total points in doubles play.
