OXFORD, Miss. - The Troy University men's tennis team returns to action on the road Monday afternoon to face the nationally-ranked Rebels of the University of Mississippi.
Troy (3-0) off to their best start in a couple of years under head coach Eric Hayes take on their first nationally-ranked opponent of the season. The match was not originally on the schedule, but was added a couple of weeks ago to help prepare the Trojans for the remainder of the season.
"This match will be a good test for us," Hayes said. "Ole Miss is always a tough team and are ranked in the top 10. This match will tell us where we stand and what we need to do to get better for the rest of the season."
The Trojans march into Oxford fresh off a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern in Orlando over the weekend. They have also defeated Alabama State and were leading Central Florida when the rains came washing out the match; but not before the number one doubles team of Luis Henrique Grangeiro and Mario Rolemberg were able to knock off the 21st-ranked doubles team in nation.
Troy will have their hands full with Ole Miss, who remains undefeated and is one of the favorites to win the SEC championship this season. The Rebels defeated 50th-ranked Indiana 4-0 this past weekend and are in the Round of 16 at the National Indoor Team Finals for the 17th consecutive season.
The match starts at 2:30 pm at the Gillom Sports Center, and the results will be posted on the site at the conclusion of the match or when they become available.
