TROY, Ala. - The Troy University tennis programs are approaching the end of the regular season, and have their sights set on the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which begins April 23 in New Orleans. However, they must first focus on the task at hand.
That task is a trip to Tallahassee to face Florida A&M University, a match that can be viewed as a trap match especially for the 62nd-ranked Troy (16-4) men's team.
Last season, the Trojans defeated Florida A&M 5-2; however, this season, the Rattlers are leading the MEAC Southern Division with a perfect 3-0 conference mark.
Florida A&M (9-14) has posted back-to-back wins for just the second time this season, with the first marking the beginning of a five-match winning streak. They are led by a trio of players who have won 12 matches each in singles play; Temuera Asafu-Adjaye (five and six), David Jackson (one and two) and Michael Moore.
Meanwhile, the Trojans will counter with a line-up they have used all season, led by the top two players - Luis Henrique Grangeiro and Aurelien Tave. The duo have combined for 25 victories and just eight losses this season, playing the top two positions for the Trojans.
Tave, playing at number two, enters the match riding a seven-match winning streak for the Trojans, while Grangeiro enters having almost won all three matches this past weekend at the Sun Belt Shootout - only one match was completed due to team winning overall.
Meanwhile, the Trojans strength has been jumping on opponents early in the match and winning the doubles point. The Trojans three doubles teams are a combined 37-16, and each of the three will enter the match on Saturday having won their last match or having a winning streak of three or more matches.
The Trojans are looking to stay with 30th-ranked and conference leading Denver (17-2) heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, while holding down the second seed currently for the tournament.
