TROY, Ala. - The Troy University tennis programs will both hit the road this week to the Palmetto State, looking to bounce back from a pair of losses to nationally-ranked programs two weeks ago.
Both programs were scheduled to play last week at home, but were unable to get on the courts at the Lunsford Tennis Center due to the heavy snow that hit the south Alabama area; recording up to six inches in some areas.
With that lay-off, the Troy (3-2) men have not been on the court since a loss to 28th-ranked Auburn back on February 10. The Trojans are coming off of back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked teams, falling to 10th-ranked Ole Miss just a few days before falling to Auburn.
Prior to the losses, the Trojans reeled off three consecutive victories to open the year, including picking up two victories on the road. The men were able to defeat Alabama State 7-0 to open the season, before recording a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Tulane in just the second match played at the Goldring Tennis Center since Hurricane Katrina. The Trojans then defeated Georgia Southern 6-1, after being rained out against Central Florida in Orlando.
Guilherme Sahadi and Aurelien Tave continue to lead the way in singles play, each losing just once in their matches this season. Sahadi is 3-1 overall, playing all four of his matches at number six; while Tave is 4-1 to open the season - playing two matches at number three (2-0) and three matches at number four (2-1).
In doubles play, the team of Luis Henrique Grangeiro and Mario Rolemberg has recorded a 3-2 record overall at number one, including defeating one of the top teams in the country at Central Florida before the rains came.
On the women's side, Troy (1-4) is looking to bounce back from a four-match losing streak that involved a pair of top 15 teams, and another top 50 team.
After defeating Florida Gulf Coast to open the season, the Trojans fell to 32nd-ranked FIU, 14th-ranked Clemson and seventh-ranked Florida; before falling to Stetson 4-3 to extend the losing streak.
During the streak, the young Trojans - playing four freshman in the lineup - have been led by Stephanie Vieira in singles play, as she has recorded a 3-2 record with four of her matches at number four (2-2) and one at number five (1-0).
The doubles teams of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt (number one), as well as Lauren Simpson and Emma Smith (number two) have recorded identical 2-3 records this season.
The Trojans take on USC Upstate on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina; before taking on Wofford Sunday afternoon. Results will be posted on TroyTrojans.com at the conclusion of the match, or when they become available.`
