TROY, Ala. - The 72nd-ranked Troy University men's tennis team, fresh off their first national ranking in eight years, put it to the test at home this weekend as they open their home slate.
The Trojans will face Winthrop Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 pm on Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (5-2) is fresh off a weekend sweep of Wofford and USC-Upstate on the road last weekend, and have lost just two times this season - both to ranked teams Auburn and Ole Miss.
Luis Henrique Grangeiro continues to impress at number one singles as he has racked up a 5-2 record at the position with his only two losses coming in the Auburn match and the Ole Miss match. He and teammate Mario Rolemberg have also won in impressive style at number one doubles, including a victory over the then-21st best doubles team in the country from Central Florida.
Meanwhile, the Troy women (1-6) look to end a six-match losing streak that involves four losses to nationally-ranked opponents and another to the defending Atlantic Sun Champion. The Trojans start four freshmen at a time in the line-up, and have just three upperclassmen on the roster this season.
Troy opens play on Saturday against Tulane, and then plays New Orleans on Sunday - both on the road.
Admission to all home tennis matches is free, make sure to come out and support these student-athletes Friday as they play their first home match of the season.
