Tirop, the two-time defending SBC champion, finished sixth at the Memphis Twighlight on Saturday night with a time of 19.32.95 in the men's four-mile run to lead the Jags to a win in their season-opening meet over Alabama, last season's SEC and South Region champoonships, as well as Ole Miss and UALR. Tirop paced the Jags, who finished with three top-10 finishes at the meet.
This is the second consecutive season that the Trojans have won the Female Runner of the Week in the first week of the season, as Jenean Corcoran captured the honor last season with her performance in the 2008 Trojan Invitational.
The Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week awards are voted on by the media relations contact at each participating institution in the conference.
