Trojans Fare Well on Gulf Coast

PENSACOLA, Fla. - In a meet that featured teams from all over the southeast and from every division, the Troy University cross country teams fared well as a team and individually Saturday morning.
The men's team finished second overall, finishing just behind Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama; while the women finished fifth at the Escambia County Equestrian Center.
Although the teams fared well, the biggest highlight of the day for the Trojans came on the individual side where junior Sylvia Chirchir narrowly missed winning the overall title. She finished the race with a time of 18:09.00 to finis second overall, but she was the top collegiate runner to cross the line as Mindy Thomas won the meet as an unattached athlete.
Junior Kelly Harrington also ran a competitive race, finishing 13th overall with a time of 19:07.00, while freshman Morgan Paulson (20:05.00) finished 33rd and Anastasia Limo (20:17.00) finished 35th overall. Freshman Allison Paulson finished 38th overall with a time of 20:22.00, while Chalyce Stancil finished 45th with a time of 20:53.00 to close out the runners for the Trojans in the race.
The women finished fifth overall with a total 114 points, finishing just four points behind Tulane and 10 points behind West Florida with 104 points.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Trojans finished second overall with a total of 58 points. They finished ahead of Alabama State (74 points) in third and behind South Alabama (19 points) in first.
Individually, the Trojans placed two runners in the top 10 and all six runners in the top 40 in the season's third race, and just the second 8K race of the season.
The top individual runner for Troy, senior Jeremy Moujoodi, crossed the line in sixth place with a time of 25:44.00. He was followed be closely by teammate Enock Kirui in ninth place with a time of 26:05.00. Brett Lewis finished 14th overall with a time of 26:23.00, while Drew Horner finished 16th overall with a time of 26:37.00.
Terence Dixon finished 18th overall with a time of 27:02.00, while freshman Nathan Rouse finished 36th overall with a time of 28:10.00.
The Trojans will return to action in two weeks, hosting the Coach O Invitational on October 17 at the Trojan Oaks Golf Course.
