Trojans to Host Two Home Meets
7/29/2009 3:26:31 PM | Cross Country
The Troy University cross country program will host two home meets for the second consecutive season, as part of the 100-year celebration Troy athletics.
The cross country program, under the direction of Jill Lancaster and new distance coach Stephane Hetherington, will host the first meet September 5, 2009. The Trojan Invitational will feature a two-mile race on the women's side that will start at the base of the track on the golf course, before winding around the infield of the track and around the top portion of the golf course. The finish will take place in front of the grandstands in front of the long jump pits. The Invitational will also feature a men's race that will be a 5K that will follow much the same path as the women, with the exception being that the men will run the entire golf course with the exception of the first and second holes; finishing in the same position.
The men will start at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 5; followed by the women at 10 am. The course is predominately grass and trails with a small cement bridge. Runners may choose to either wear their spikes or flats, dependent on the best shoe for the surface.
The Trojans will also host their annual Coach O Invitational, named for their former track and field star, on October 17 at the Trojan Oaks Golf Course. The course will be the same as in the Trojan Invitational, with the start times the same.
