Former Troy University golfer Brandon Anthony has been blistering the Peach State Golf Tour in recent weeks, posting back-to-back victories in the tour's last two events.
A native of Albany, Ga., Anthony played on the Troy golf team during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons and, since the start of the 2004 season, has the second lowest career scoring average of any Troy player at 74.4.
Through 10 events on the 2010 Peach State Tour, Anthony has enjoyed even greater success. In addition to winning tournament titles earlier this week at the Healy Point Classic and last week at the Bentwater Classic, Anthony has posted a 70.85 scoring average this year.
This is Anthony's first season on the Peach State Tour. Since leaving Troy he had focused his efforts on working with McGregor Golf, but had to change his plans earlier this year.
"I didn't play well my last year at Troy and, when I finished, I went to work with McGregor," Anthony said. "When they went out of business I had a lot more time to practice and play.
"I played some events on the Hooters Tour in the past, but this is the most I have played since leaving Troy. I played OK the first few weeks, but then we had a week off and I got a chance to really practice and that jump-started me and I have played really well since."
The Peach State Tour runs through early October with 25 total events, including a Tour Championship, and serves as a training ground for players to prepare for PGA Tour Qualifying School. In fact, the Peach State Tour sponsors one player to Q School based on accumulated points during the season.
Through 10 events this year, Anthony has earned 3,820 Q School points and currently stands third in the race for the Q School sponsorship, which is something he is really focused on getting.
"It is nice to have made a little money, but the real focus is to get into Q school," Anthony said. "I am going to play in as many of the Peach State Tour events as I can to try to get that. I am also going to play in some of the Hooters Tour events this summer."
In addition to a chance to go to Q School, Anthony has earned $14,686 on the tour through 10 events.
The next event on the Peach State Tour is the Orchard Hills Classic on June 21-22.
Anthony will play in the NGA Hooters Tour beginning July 26 at the Michelob Ultra Classic at the Auburn University Golf Club.
