A Day of Personal Bests in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - The Troy University track and field program finished off the weekend at the War Eagle Invitational with several new personal bests set, and several top three finishes to set themselves up for their home meet next weekend.
The Trojans will now shift their focus to the Coach O Invitational at the Jesse H. Colley Track/Soccer Complex next Saturday. The event runs all day, beginning at 9 am and admission is free to the meet.
Freshman Neko Freeman missed a personal best by just 0.01 seconds in the 100-meter finals on Saturday, finishing second with a time of 10.49 seconds. He finished just behind Kendall May of Mississippi State at 10.35 seconds. Meanwhile, in the same race, senior Antonio McLeod finished fifth overall with a time of 10.51 seconds - missing his personal best by just 0.03 seconds - while Payton McGhee finished sixth with a time of 10.55 seconds.
Senior Burke Leonce rounded out the field for the Trojans in the 100-meter finals, as they place four in the final eight, running a time of 10.56 seconds.
Senior Lamontrey Stamper had another impressive showing this week, although it was not in a personal best situation. Stamper finished as the top collegiate athlete in the long jump, finishing with a jump of 7.20 meters (23-07.50), finishing just a foot and a half from the overall title in the meet over all athletes. Stamper followed that performance up with a third place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.40 meters (47-03.00), finishing as the second-highest collegiate athlete.
After a first place finish on Friday, senior Tiphanie Baker finished second overall in the discus - but finished as the top collegiate athlete in the event. She finished second only to Nike athlete Aretha Thurmond, with a distance of 45.45 meters (149-01.00).
Sylvia Chirchir narrowly missed out on a top three finish in the 5000-meters, running a time of 18:01.18 in the race. However, she did finish top three collegiately, as the top finisher (Hamel Murphy) ran unattached. Meanwhile, in the men's 1500-meter race, freshman Enock Kirui shattered his previous personal best in the event with a time of 14:58.83. The mark bettered his previous personal best by 12 seconds.
In the 100-meter hurdles on the women's side, both Latoya Ragland and Naquita Rowe qualified in the top eight. However, Rowe finished eighth overall with a time of 13.77 seconds and Ragland eighth with a time of 13.78 seconds - the fourth time in two years the two have been separated by just 0.01 seconds in a race.
A pair of Trojans recorded personal bests in the 200-meters on the men's side, led by junior Stanley Arukwe with a time of 21.21 seconds; while senior Antonio McLeod ran a time of 21.31 seconds to break his previous personal best mark of 21.31 seconds.
Freshman Simone Pugh was another Trojan who took the action to her advantage, recording a personal best in the 100-meters. The freshman shattered her previous personal best in the event of 12.55 seconds, finishing with a time of 12.02 seconds overall in the event.
Junior transfer Chris Upshaw continued the trend of personal bests on Saturday, as he ran one in the 400-meters. Upshaw finished ninth overall with a time of 49.03 seconds, bettering his previous mark of 49.03 seconds set earlier this season.
Not to be outdone in the middle distance competition, freshman Chalyce Stancil recorded a personal best time of 2:21.58 in the 800-meters; bettering her previous mark of 2:22.85 set earlier this season. While in the men's 800-meters, Adam Vise ran a personal best time of 1:55.95 to finish 11th overall in the competition. That mark bettered his previous best mark of 1:57.15.
In the 400-meter hurdles, both Kapri Hockaday and O'Jike Maat set new personal bests on their sides respectively. Hockaday finished with a time of 1:03.40 on the women's side, while Maat finished seventh overall with a time of 54.53 seconds on the men's side.
In relay competition, the Troy 4x100-meter relay team on the women's side ran a new season-best on Saturday with a fourth place finish. The team of Ariel Cavazos, Ja-Courteny Alexander, Latoya Ragland and Ashley Hall ran a time of 46.21 seconds - besting a mark of 46.33 seconds set earlier this season.
The 4x400-meter relay team on the women's side finished fifth overall, but ran a season-best time. The team of Cavazos, Alexander, Rowe and Veronica Bryant crossed the line in a time of 3:48.87 to better a mark of 3:49.31 set earlier this season. Not to be outdone, the men's team of Aruwke, Leonce, Upshaw and Andre McElroy crossed in a season-best time of 3:15.22 - bettering a mark of 3:16.00 set earlier this season.
