4/15/2010 9:00:00 PM | Track & Field
The Trojans will be in action with the hammer throw for both the men and women. Troy freshman Cody Bahrke looks to return to form this week in the hammer, where he has thrown for a team best 50.62 meters this season. On the women's side, senior Tiphanie Baker returns after two weeks off to participate in the hammer on Friday afternoon. She will be joined by freshman Brynn Forsythe, and between the two student-athletes, they have combined for seven of the top 10 throws by the Trojans this season.
The Trojans will also send four athletes into competition in the javelin on Thursday afternoon, with freshman Lizzie Clough hitting the field first. She has all ready jumped into the top four all-time at the school this season with her first throw of the season, as well as qualifying for Junior Nationals. On the men's side, freshman Matt Braswell will look to better his second-best mark in school history this weekend; while teammate Mackenzie Howell looks to get back on track this weekend and regain the momentum that once had him at number two on the all-time list at the school.
The day on Saturday begins with the field events in the morning and all eyes on will be on the jumping pits as senior Lamontrey Stamper continues his pursuit of the record books in the long jump and triple jump, beginning at 11 am. The events continue all morning on Saturday, with the last field event taking place at 2 pm with the discus in which Baker, Forsythe and Nicole Studstill will take part.
The track events begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday with the 4x100-meter relay for both the men and women. This track is the same track in which the men ran a time of 40.16 seconds, which is the fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season. This week they will run the team of Neko Freeman (the reigning Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete of the Week), Antonio McLeod, Payton McGhee and Stanley Arukwe in hopes of bettering that mark.
On the women's side, the Trojans will look to rebound with Ariel Cavazos, Ja-Courteny Alexander, Latoya Ragland and Ashley Hall running the relay.
Ragland will also compete in the 100-meter hurdles shortly after her event in the relay, joining teammate Naquita Rowe in the competition as the two continue to push each other to a regional berth.
The events continue all day with multiple athletes for the Trojans involved throughout the day. For more information on the meet and which events the Trojan student-athletes are involved in, click on the links above.
