Trojan Womens Streak Reaches Eight

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Troy University women continued their hot streak to close out the regular season, winning their eighth consecutive match with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Florida A&M University Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans won the doubles point easily on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the action. The team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt claimed an 8-4 victory at number one, while the team of Stephanie Vieira and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega claimed an 8-2 victory at number three.
The biggest news of the day came when Lauren Simpson and Emma Smith claimed an 8-2 victory at number two doubles. The victory by the Trojan duo snapped a 10-match winning streak for the Florida A&M team of Alexis Brown and Rachel Pye.
Leading 1-0 overall, the Trojans strolld to the victory with five straight set victories on the day.
Grymel defeated Pye at nymber one with a 6-1, 7-5 victory; which was followed up by a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Simpson at number two in less than an hour. At number three Guijt cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory; while Vieira claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number four. The final singles victory of the day came courtesy of Smith at number six as she claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The only loss for the Trojans came at number five with a pair of winning streaks on the line. Unfortunately for Troy, FAMU's Alexis Brown was able to claim a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Rosaura Ramirez-Vega.
The Trojans close out the regular season with consecutive matches next weekend. They will face Middle Tennessee on Saturday, then face North Texas on Sunday; with both matches in Murfreesboro.
