Trojans Complete Sweep of Blue Raiders

TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojans softball team complete a sweep of Middle Tennessee with a 4-1 win at the Trojan Softball Complex on Thursday.
Ashlyn Williams threw her eighth complete game of the season as she ran her record to 9-3. She struck out nine batters and gave up just one run on five hits.
Nikki Hollett led the Trojans at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI on a three run homer in the fourth inning. In the series with the Blue Raiders, Hollett went 4-for-8 with 5 RBI.
The Trojans got on the board first with a single, unearned run in first inning. Kala Moore led off with a single to right center field. After she stole second base, Kaitlin Kenney put down a sacrifice bunt. Middle Tennessee second baseman Kandra Singleton who was covering first couldn't hold on to the throw, allowing Moore to score and Kenney to advance to second.
Troy added three more runs in fourth off the strength of a three run bomb by Nikki Hollett. After Courtney Cherry led off the inning with a walk, the Blue Raiders miss handled their second bunt of the game, allowing Sally Ward to reach first and Cherry to advance to third. Hollett was the next up and she delivered at three run shot to straight away center field, her first of the season.
Middle Tennessee scratched across one run in the fifth. Kaycee Popham led off with a single. Nina Davenport came in to run and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. A double by Brittney Banania plated Davenport to get the score to 4-1.
Lindsey Vander Lugt was pinned with the loss for Middle Tennessee. She threw three innings and gave up four runs, two earned, on five hits. Brittany Banania led the Blue Raiders at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a RBI.
The Trojans will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Starkville, Miss. for the Bulldog Classic. The Trojans will take on Mississippi State at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. They will then play Wright State and Mississippi Valley on Saturday. The Trojans will also take part in a playoff game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
