Trojans Fall to Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Trojans had a tough first game at the Bulldog Classic, falling to host Mississippi State 8-0. The loss snapped Troy's five game winning streak.
Ashlyn Williams was tagged with the loss for the Trojans after throwing four innings and giving up eight runs on seven hits. Sarah Harris had the Trojans only hit of the game with a single to the right center gap in the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs (10-6) got on the board first with two runs in the first. A leadoff walk followed by a steal of second base put a Bulldog in scoring position with no outs. After the Trojans retired the next two batters, a two out single, followed by a double plated two runs for Mississippi State.
The Trojans (12-5) threatened in the bottom of the first, but left the bases loaded after a walk and two hit batters.
Mississippi State plated another run in the third inning. An infield single paired with a throwing error put the leadoff batter on second base. After a stolen base got the runner to third, a sacrifice fly made the score 3-0.
The Bulldogs added five more runs in the fourth inning on the strength of five hits a walk and a hit batter, making the score 8-0.
The Trojans will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Wright State at 10:00 a.m. and Mississippi Valley State at 12:00 p.m. to continue the Bulldog Classic.
