NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the second consecutive week, a pair of Troy University student-athletes were named Athletes of the Week announced by the Sun Belt Conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Antonio McLeod won the Male Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the 100-meters, 200-meters and 4x100-meter relay at the FSU Relays this past weekend; while senior Tiphanie Baker won a pair of events at the FSU Relays, capturing first in the discus and the hammer.
McLeod won the 100-meters at the FSU Relays in a time of 10.48 seconds. The mark is the third best in the Sun Belt Conference and is the 15th best time in the country at this point in the season; setting a new personal best in the process. He also finished fifth in the 200-meters with a time of 21.67 seconds, the fourth fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season and the 76th fastest time in the country this season. To finish off the weekend, the junior ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished with a time of 40.87 seconds, finishing third at the event. The team narrowly missed out on second, finishing just behind Tennessee - and running what would be the second-fastest time in the conference if not all ready holding the top spot. The time set by the team in the 4x100-meter relay is the 30th fastest time in the country.
Baker claimed a pair of first place finishes at the FSU Relays this past weekend. The senior won the discus with a season-best throw of 49.96 meters which beats her previous mark as the Sun Belt Conference top mark this season, and is also the 18th best throw in the nation this season. She also won the hammer with a throw of 53.64 meters, which would be the third best mark in the conference this season if Baker didn't hold the best mark in the conference to this point.
The duo join freshmen Ja-Courteny Alexander and Cody Bahrke as award winners this season. The team returns to action this weekend at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic, beginning Friday afternoon on the Auburn University campus.
