MONROE, La. - The Troy Trojans softball team used 10 hits to take the third and deciding game of their series with ULM, 5-0.
Ashlyn Williams (15-11) threw her fifth complete game shutout of the year, giving up just five hits and striking out ten Warhawks (12-13, 2-4).
Hayden Gann led the Trojans (19-15, 7-3) at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double with 2 RBI. Kala Moore and Sarah Shields also each had two hits on the day.
After three scoreless innings by both sides, the Trojans got on the board first with two runs in the fourth. Hayden Gann and Nikki Hollett each delivered solo home runs in the inning. Gann's was her fourth of the year and Hollett's shot over the left field fence was the third of her season.
The two bombs chased ULM starter Kandace Causey (3-4) who pitched game one on Saturday and brought on game two starter Tiffany Mills.
The Trojans would get to Mills in the fifth, adding two insurance runs to make the score 4-0. Kala Moore led off with an infield single and was bunted over to second base by Marcy Sartain. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Rocky Paige and Gann plated two more Trojan runs to increase their lead to four.
Troy would tack on another in the sixth. A leadoff walk by Sarah Harris followed by a fielder's choice and a single by Sarah Shields put runners on the corners with one out. For the second time on the weekend, the Trojans called a double steal and it worked perfectly, scoring Belinda White from third and moving Shields to second and giving the Trojans a 5-0 lead.
The Trojans will take a break from Sun Belt play when they travel to Auburn on Wednesday for a single game. First pitch from Jane B. Moore Field is set for 6:00 p.m.
