GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Clemson men's golf team carded a final round 282 to rally from a three-stroke deficit on Sunday and claim the team title at the 41st Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course.
Chattanooga's Steven Fox drained a birdie putt on his final hole to share individual medalist honors with the Tigers' Ben Martin at six-under par.
Trailing by two strokes, Fox (70-68-72=210) capped his round with a birdie at No. 18. Martin (70-71-69=210), playing in the final group with Fox, posted a bogey after a shot out of bounds and settled for a share of the tournament title after a potential playoff was cancelled due to darkness and wet course conditions. The pair finished five strokes ahead of third place Corbin Mills (72-76-67=215) of Clemson who tallied the low round of the day with a five-under 67.
The Tigers (289-294-282=865), three strokes behind Chattanooga (289-291-299=879) entering Sunday's final round, finished 11 strokes ahead of the rest of the field over the final 18 holes to take a 14-stroke victory over the Mocs. Furman (305-290-298=893) placed third while Western Carolina, Kennesaw State and Old Dominion rounded out the top five.
Junior Austin Reeves (76-68-73=217), the tournament's defending champion, shot a one-over 73 to grab a share of fifth place and help Furman to its third place finish. The Paladins' Garland Ferrell (78-73-73=220) and Daniel Bowden (74-74-76=224) finished in a tie for 20th at eight over par. Furman's Anthony Aloi (73-74-73=220), playing as an individual took eighth place.
Meanwhile, the Trojans finished 19th overall with a round of 314 in the final round, finishing at +70 (934) on the tough course this weekend. Individually for Troy, Zach Portemont earned top honors as he tied for 71st after starting the round at tied for 69. Portemont finished the tournament shooting a 16-over par (232), while teammate Rourke Van Der Spuy finished tied for 77th just one stroke behind Portemont at 17-over par (233).
