Trojans Claim Victory On Road

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Troy University women's tennis team returned to action for the first time in 18 days, and promptly recorded a 5-2 victory over Kennesaw State University in non-conference action here Tuesday afternoon.
Troy (5-6) rode the momentum of four straight-set wins in singles play, coupled with winning two of three doubles matches to offset a strong performance by Kennesaw State's Vera Shkundina.
In doubles action, the Trojans jumped ahead quickly, when the team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt jumped ahead early and pulled away for an 8-1 victory at number two. Kennesaw State (7-8) was able to to win the number one doubles match, setting the stage of the third and final doubles match of the day to decide the point. The team of Stephanie Vieira and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega defeated Kennesaw State's Iesha Holton and Agatha Palider, 8-6, to claim the point for the trojans.
In singles, the Trojans claimed victories from number two through five, with freshman Lauren Simpson claiming a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kennesaw State's Morgan Carney winning at number two; followed by Vieira claiming a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Ayano Tanaka at number three. At number four Guijt defeated Iesha Holton 6-4, 7-5; while Ramirez-Vega claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number five to ease the Trojans to victory.
The Trojans return to action March 19 at home against ULM, the first of four consecutive home matches for the Trojans.
