Trojans Saturday Game On Tube

TROY, Ala. - For the third time this season the Troy Trojans women's basketball team will be featured on television, and for the second time the game will be on the road.
Troy (11-10, 4-8 Sun Belt) is in the midst of a three-game road trip, and travel to take on WKU (14-8, 8-3 Sun Belt) Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. The game will take place at E.A. Diddle Arena and will be televised by HSSN (check your local cable provider for Fox Sports Atlantic).
The game can also be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM, beginning with the pregame show at 3:45 pm from Bowling Green, Kentucky.
THE BASICS . . . Troy (11-10, 4-8 Sun Belt) will be looking to end a four-game losing streak against the top three teams in the East Division (Middle Tennessee, WKU and South Alabama) ... The Trojans enter the game having lost five of their last six games, with three of those losses by a combined 11 points ... The Trojans have lost four games this season by three or fewer points and have had the ball in their hands on the final possession ... Junior Donette McNair recorded her seventh double-double of the season against South Alabama last Saturday ... Senior Brittnie Davis had her streak of 20 or more points scored snapped at three, as she was held to just five points by South Alabama ... WKU (14-8, 8-3 Sun Belt) enters the game on a three-game winning streak, and have won seven of their last eight games this season ... The Lady Toppers have only lost twice since December 28 (a string of 11 games) ... The game will be televised on HSSN by WKU and streamed live on the internet as well ... The game can also be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM with Travis Jarome (play-by-play) providing the action ... This marks the second of three consecutive road games for the Trojans this month, traveling to Longwood (VA) next week.
THE COACHES . . . Michael Murphy is in his eighth season at the helm of the Trojans where he has recorded a 102-120 record, becoming just the second coach at the university to win 100 or more games ... Meanwhile, Mary Taylor Cowles is in her eighth year at the school, where she has recorded a 168-78 record over that time.
THE SERIES . . . The all-time series with Troy and WKU has been lopsided over the last few years with the Lady Toppers winning seven of the last eight ... WKU leads the all-time series 7-1 ... The two teams met twice last year, with WKU winning at E.A. Diddle Arena, and the Trojans winning for the first time in school history against the Lady Toppers at Trojan Arena on Valentine's Day .. The two teams have met this season with WKU winning by seven at Trojan Arena earlier in January.
TROJAN NUGGETS . . . Senior Alyce Shearing was shut out for the first time in two season in scoring against FIU, with the last time she was shut out coming against Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in her sophomore season ... Freshman Sophie Kleeman has played six full games for the Trojans this season at the point guard, assuming the role from the departed Larelle Roper (ironically, they share the same uniform number) ... The Trojans have tied and set new school records this season in free throw percentage in a game (tied with a mark of 100 percent against Army), points allowed (tied with 39 by New Orleans) and 19 rebounds in a single game by Donette McNair (broke school record in Division I era).
A WIN WOULD . . . Be the Trojans second in seven games ... End a two-game losing streak ... Pull the Trojans even with FIU for the fifth spot in the East Division ... Be the second win over WKU in two years ... Be the first win at E.A. Diddle Arena.
A LOSS WOULD . . . Be the Trojans fifth consecutive loss to the top three teams in the East Division ... Drop the Trojans two games behind FIU for fifth in the East Division.
AGAINST THE ALMA MATER . . . The Trojans are 0-5 this season against coaches that have returned to coach their alma mater ... Today's match-up will be the second time this season the Trojans have faced a coach from his/her alma mater two times this season in Mary Taylor Cowles ... The Trojans are 0-2 against South Alabama, and 0-1 each against Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee and WKU.
60 POINTS OR LESS . . . For the first time this season, the Trojans lost a game in which they gave up 60 or fewer points in contest ... They were a perfect 9-0 before Saturday's loss to South Alabama, including 3-0 in conference play.
WHEN MCNAIR RECORDS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE . . . The Trojans are 6-1 this season when junior Donette McNair records a double-double ... The junior has recorded double-doubles against Jacksonville State, Morgan State, Belhaven, New Orleans, North Texas, ULM and South Alabama ... The only loss for the Trojans this season on a double-double by McNair is against South Alabama this past weekend.
HARD TIMES . . . Trojans have dropped eight conference games, five of which are by a combined 16 points ... Four of those games have been by three points or less, with the Trojans having the ball in their hands for the final possession.
700 CLUB . . . Senior forward Alyce Shearing is just 43 points away from joining the 700-point club ... If she hits her average each game, Shearing should hit the mark by the Florida Atlantic game - Senior Day.
FORTUNE 500 . . . Senior Brittnie Davis went over the 500-point mark in the Trojans in over ULM last week ... She did so although she scored just 92 points in her first two seasons as a Trojan ... She doubled her performance as a freshman to a sophomore (25 to 67), then more than doubled her performance as a sophomore to junior (67 to 174), followed by 263 at this point in the season as a senior.
500-500 CLUB . . . Junior Donette McNair is just 62 rebounds away from joining the 500-500 club, although by the time she hits 500 rebounds she will have 600 points (601 currently) ... At her current average, McNair should hit the mark on the road against UALR.
