JONESBORO, Ark. - The Troy University women's basketball team will close out the regular season against Arkansas State University on the road Saturday afternoon.
Troy (11-16, 4-13 Sun Belt) is looking to win their second consecutive game against Arkansas State, and enter the Sun Belt Conference on a positive note. The tournament begins next week in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Although the Trojans are in the midst of a losing streak, they have been able to take many positives out of the streak. Their best two games during the streak have been against the best two teams in the conference in Middle Tennessee and UALR. Against the Blue Raiders they were able to score 84 points, the second-most points that Middle Tennessee has allowed this season. Against UALR, the Trojans were able to hold UALR to eight percentage points below their season average.
“We played arguably the best team in the league on Wednesday night,” Troy head coach Michael Murphy said. “They beat Middle Tennessee here by 20. I am really encouraged by the fact that we have played our best two games down the stretch against the best two team in the conference in Middle and UALR. I am not disappointed in effort or results, we are all just frustrated. We have a tremendous work ethic and they are continuing to work hard, and come with a purpose. I really like the way we played Wednesday night, and I think that gives us something good to work with and get ready for a hostile environment on Saturday against Arkansas State.”
They will look to take those positives and work against Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon, and translate that into success heading into the conference tournament.
The game tips at 3:05 pm and can be heard on WTBF 94.7-FM. The game will be broadcast in progress and programming will be picked up at the conclusion of the baseball game in Fayetteville.
