Trojans Fall To Kennesaw on the Road

KENNESAW, Ga. -The Trojans lost two games on the road to Kennesaw State on Tuesday. Troy fell in game one 5-1 and game two 17-9. Courtney Cherry highlighted the day for the Trojans, hitting the first two home runs of her career.
GAME ONE
Ashlyn Williams started game one in the circle for the Trojans (6-2). The junior from Hattiesburg, Miss. struck out 10 batters, however she gave nine hits, three of them home runs and was tagged with the loss in a 5-1 decision.
Troy got game one started off just the way they wanted. Kala Moore led off the first inning with a triple and Belinda White followed with an RBI single.
Kennesaw (5-3) answered in the second with two runs to take the lead. After a leadoff walk placed a runner on one, Williams surrendered her second home run of the season, giving the Owls a 2-1 lead.
The Owls was add single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to increase their lead to 5-1. An RBI double in the fourth and solo homers in the fifth and sixth plated the Owls runs.
GAME TWO
The Trojans (6-3) pitchers struggled in game two as the Trojans fell to Kennesaw 17-9. One bright spot for Troy in the game was freshman Courtney Cherry who hit the first two home runs of her career. Cherry finished 2-for-3 with 5 RBI. Hayden Gann also posted 3 RBI.
Kennesaw (6-3) got out to an early lead with a three run first inning. After Troy starter Sally Ward retired the first, back-to-back doubles and a two-run home run put the Owls in the early lead.
The Trojans continued to struggle in the second inning as Kennesaw posted 10 runs in the inning. The Owls scored their runs on the strength of seven hits, including a grand slam, and four Trojan errors. Ward was charged with 10 runs and Haley Hutchins came on with one out in the second and was charged with three of the runs.
The Trojans would get six of the runs back in the top of the third making the score 13-6. After Kaitlin Kenny singled, Sarah Shields reached on a single and Belinda White walked, Hayden Gann hit a bases clearing double to plate three.
Rocky Paige came up next and drew another walk, then Courtney Cherry hit her first career home run to plate three more runs.
The Owls added three more runs in the fourth after a Trojan error with two outs kept the inning alive.
Troy would get all three back in the fifth. Hayden Gann led off the inning with a walk, then Rocky Paige doubled to the warning track in right field, placing runners on second and third with no outs.
After Gann scored on a passed ball, Cherry came to the plate and pulled her second home run of the game over the left field fence, getting the Trojans to with seven at 16-9.
The Owls plated one more run in the fifth to make the margin eight, ending the game with a final score of 17-9.
The Trojans will be back in action when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Magic City Classic hosted by Samford this weekend. Troy will take on Alabama State and UAB on Friday, Nicholls State on Saturday and Samford on Sunday.
