Trojan Women Blank Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Troy University women's tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak, blanking Wofford College 7-0 on the road in non-conference tennis action Sunday afternoon.
Troy (2-5) swept through doubles play, dropping just six games in the three matches. At number one, the team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt claimed an 8-2 victory Wofford's Haley Baird and Lindsay Larkin. Meanwhile, at number two the team of Lauren Simpson and Emma Smith (the all-freshman doubles team) defeated Wofford's Guinn Garcia and Beth Dyar 8-3; while the number three team of Rosaura Ramirez-Vega and Gabriella Veiga defeated Wofford's Sonia Anand and Stephanie Cox 8-1 to complete the sweep.
In singles play, the only player tested was at number two where Leonie Guijt dropped the first set 6-3, before roaring back to win the second set 6-2. The match had all ready been decided when the two were still on the court, so they were forced into a super set to determine the winner and Guijt came out on top 10-7.
At number one, Karoline Grymel won 6-2, 6-3 over Wofford's Sabrina Smyers; while at number three Lauren Simpson (dropping down a spot on Sunday) defeated Guinn Garcia 6-3, 6-1.
In the bottom half of the line-up, the Trojans dropped just nine games in the six sets, with Emma Smith picking up a resounding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lindsay Larkin at number five. At number four singles, Ramirez-Vega defeated Wofford's Beth Dyar 6-2, 6-2; while at number six Gabriella Veiga defeated Stephanie Cox 6-2, 6-2 to complete the sweep.
