Trojan Women Fall To Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Troy University women's tennis team lost a heart-breaking 4-3 decision to USC Upstate on the road in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Troy (1-5) won the doubles point when they were able to win the top two spots on the day. The number one team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt defeated the Upstate team Francisca Valderama and Monica Pezzotti 9-8 (5) to set the stage for singles play and clinch the doubles point. The Trojans also won at number two when the team of Emma Smith and Lauren Simpson defeated the team of Carolina Bello and Cinthya Lazaro 8-4.
The Spartans were able to win a doubles match, although it did nothing in the overall score when the team of Emilia Milovanovic and Simona Cacciuttolo defeated the Troy team of Stephanie Vieira and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega 9-7.
Leading 1-0, the Trojans needed just three victories in singles play but were unable to do as Upstate won at the top two spots, and then again at number four and six.
The Trojans were able to victories at number three when Leonie Guijt defeated Upstate's Carolina Bello 6-2, 6-1; and picked up another win at number five when Emma Smith defeated Ana Sofia Camberos 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Troy returns to action Sunday afternoon on the road in Spartanburg against Wofford at 12 noon.
