TROY, Ala. - A pair of Troy University women's soccer players were recently rewarded for their performances this season by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru, capping of a remarkable season for the Trojans.
Sophomore Ruth Sutcliffe capped off her first collegiate season with a selection to the All-South Region Third Team, as one of four forwards. She led the Trojans in scoring with 25 points, as she netted nine goals and tied single-season school record with seven assists. The sophomore was among the conference leaders in scoring in her first season, as she added four game-winning goals - including two in back-to-back road conference victories.
Senior Jill Pinder capped a remarkable career with a Third Team selection to the All-South Region team, scoring four goals and adding two assists from her midfield position. The senior finished the year with one game-winning goal, that coming against South Alabama that enabled the Trojans to earn the fifth seed in the conference tournament. She finished her career as the school record holder for goals in a single season, goals in a career and points scored in a career.
"This is a huge honor for both of them," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said. "It speaks volumes for their work on the field, and the kind of year, not only them, but that the whole team had. They are very deserving of this honor."
Pinder and Sutcliffe join seven other members of the Sun Belt Conference selected as All-Region, the second-most of any conference in the South Region behind the Southeastern Conference (18 selections). The two conferences combined for 25 of the 33 region selections this year.
The honor is the second for the duo, as they were each honored at the end of the regular season by being selected Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference, leading the Trojans to their highest seeding in school history.
The All-Region honors earned by the duo will also go down in school history, as they are the first student-athletes in soccer history at the university to earn All-Region honors by the NSCAA.
