Trojans Face Third SEC Foe of Season
GAME NOTES :: LISTEN LIVE (UPDATED)
The Troy men's basketball team heads to the site of one of the biggest victories in program history this weekend. Troy faces the University of Arkansas on Saturday at 2 pm in Bud Walton Arena.
It is the first visit for the Trojans since they defeated Arkansas 74-66 on December 3, 2002 in the same building.
That day, current Troy assistant coach Ben Fletcher scored 23 points as the Trojans built a 10-point halftime advantage and held on down the stretch.
One day more than eight years later, the Trojans will again visit Bud Walton Arena with an upset in mind. Arkansas stands at 4-1 on the young season, but Troy is scuffling having lost five straight after opening the season with a 100-49 win over Division III Huntingdon College.
Troy trails Arkansas 1-2 in the all-time series. The two programs last met as part of the San Juan Shootout in 2005.
Vernon Taylor leads the Trojans in scoring at 16.7 ppg. Levan Patsatsia adds 13.8 ppg and is shooting 45 percent from the floor.
Center Bernard Toombs is posting a double-double per game – 11.3 ppg and 10.0 rpg.
The Razorbacks are led by sharp-shooting junior guard Rotnei Clark who is scoring 16.6 ppg and shooting nearly 44 percent from behind the arc. Delvon Johnson is the other double-figure scorer at 10.2 ppg. He leads the team with 7.6 rpg and ranks in the top 10 nationally with 17 blocked shots.
Coverage begins on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm with Joe Davis on the call on online at the link above. The broadcast will not be available over the airwaves, strictly the link above.
