Razorbacks Run Past Troy, 76-60

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Troy battled for the duration of the contest, but Arkansas' depth and athleticism proved to be too much for the Trojans on Saturday afternoon as they fell 75-60.
A frantic pace told the story of the first eight minutes of the first half. The Trojans (1-6) knocked down four of their first five 3-pointers to build a 25-19 lead with 11:34 minutes left before halftime.
Troy capitalized on five Arkansas (6-1) turnovers in its early run, but it was the Trojans turning it over that pulled the Razorbacks back into the game. Consecutive miscues by DeAndrae Ross and Shawntez Patterson led to back-to-back baskets for UA with the last being a free throw by Delvon Johnson for a 28-27 lead with 7:38 to go.
The Razorbacks were able to take control of the game with a 14-0 run to close out the second half. Marvell Waithe scored a tip-in as the horn sounded to put his squad up 48-36 at halftime.
Toombs scored two in the paint on an in-bounds play to slice Troy's deficit to nine points, 60-51 with nine minutes left. Vernon Taylor knocked down a long two to make it 60-53 with 8:32 left.
The Trojans had the deficit to nine again and had possession, but Levan Patsatsia missed a lay-up. Troy couldn't track down a Nobles miss and after an in-bounds play, they had to resort to fouling.
The Razorbacks had the advantage of a substantially different free throw totals. Arkansas connected on 15-of-20 attempts for the day, while Troy attempted just four and made two free throws Troy was called for 20 personal fouls, compared to just 10 on the Razorbacks.
Patterson set a new career high with 12 points. Taylor led the Trojans with 19 for the game.
Arkansas was paced by Johnson with 20 points. He made it a double-double with 13 rebounds. Rotnei Clarke scored 16 points.
Troy has a break from game action for one week during final exams. The Trojans will be in action next on December 11 at Miami (Ohio).
