Ghorbel Advances To Championship Finals, Eccleton Advances In Consolation Bracket

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The second day of the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational featured a pair of Troy University men's tennis team making moves in their respective draws; one in the championship draw and the other in the consolation draw.
Sami Ghorbel made a move all the way to the championship match in the Hannah Draw with a pair of victories on Saturday. Ghorbel moved to the semifinal round with a straight-set victory before matching up with Indiana's Stephen Vogl. The Trojan freshman needed three sets to move forward in the tournament, defeated Vogl 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; earning the right to face Notre Dame's Matt Johnson for the championship on Sunday.
Jamie Eccleton rebounded well from his opening round loss in the Musso Draw on Friday, winning two matches on Saturday morning to advance in the consolation draw. Eccelton rebounded with a 6-4, 7-6 first round victory ove Notre Dame's Sean Tean to advance to the consolation semifinal round.
In the semifinal round, Eccelton defeated UAB's Tom Putez 6-2, 6-2 to advance to Sunday's consolation final.
He will face Michael McGinnis of Boston College in the consolation finals on the campus of Alabama Sunday morning.
Senior Mario Rolemberg fell just one match short of the consolation final as he went all the way through to the semifinal round before falling to Notre Dame's Ryan Bandy 6-4, 6-4 in the Namath Draw.
After falling in the opening round ot he Stabler Draw on Friday, junior Branko Weber fell short in his first round consolation match against Shaye Wli of Tulane; 7-6, 6-4; ending the tournament for Weber.
The same happened to freshman Tommy Cundy, as he fell on Friday in the opening round of the Palmer Draw; before falling to Kyle Wishing of Middle Tennessee 6-2, 6-1 on Saturday morning.
Sophomore Anas Rouchdi fell victim to an opening consolation round match when he fell to UAB's Danny Manlow in straight sets; falling 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action on Saturday, the team of Jamie Eccleton and Sami Ghorbel fell to Boston College's team of Erik Kruetzer and Alex Skinner in the Round of 32 on Saturday morning, 8-5. Meanwhile in the Crimson Draw, the duo of Tommy Cundy and Branko Weber fell to the Illinois duo of Brian Alden and Stephen Hoh 8-5 in the opening round of the Crimson Draw; while the duo of Mario Rolemberg and Anas Rouchdi fell to to the Notre Dame duo of Greg Andrews and Tyler Davis, 9-7.
The tournament concludes on Sunday and results will be posted as soon as they become available.
